Don't retreat, release

"...readers were asked how they felt about Florida's new "deadly force" law, which took effect Oct. 1. The law allows Floridians to use force against a perceived deadly threat and removes a traditional clause that requires them to retreat first before doing so."

Here are some of the reponses:

It's a disgrace that we have a state attorney publicly side with a six-time convicted felon who should have been in prison at the time he was attempting to commit a robbery.
Doug Freeman, Jacksonville.

To say that this law restricts prosecutors from pursuing homicides is completely false. This law protects honest people who had the courage to defend their lives and the lives of others from someone seeking to do them harm. There is a stark difference. This law needs to be replicated in every state.
Joshua Mize, Gainesville

The deadly force law should have been enacted many years ago because the criminals have always had the advantage.
James Ritter
